I found a six inch pike in some nasty sewer stream under a tiny rock with ice on the ground.

I had a couple bluntnose minnows in a 10 gal long and some of them are missing, i think the pike ate em, but i see no scales?

Im just wondering what else can i feed this guy? I allmost **** my pants when i found him.

Columbia south carolina btw.

From what i understand this is a rare find, im stoked! And i know you guys are probably thinking, "shoulda left him in the stream if all you have is a ten" well, ill have a 55 next friday. he seems happy in my ten though.. :banhim:

Any informative goodies about pikes/musky i need to know? i Know they get big. And fast. But i just had to save him! every other fish i found was dead because of the cold!

Thanks, chris

pics would help for a proper ID

haha, yea hopefully no one gives you too much crap, but yea being wild i figure he will be a little more stubborn towards pellets and such. I would get him hooked on feeder goldies and you can also go to bait shops and get him minnows, shiners, and crawdads. Once he gets used to you feeding him you can start feeding him frozen foods, or I even feed my fish foods like hot dogs, chicken, pretty much any left over meat after supper

Can you get a pic? I would think it would more likely be a pickerel than a pike or muskie.

Best case would be if it were a pickeral, a pike or muskie would be extremly daunting to house. Pics

Might be a pickeral seeing you are in the south

Pikes and muskie love cold water around 55 degrees. I had a pike a long time ago and I use to keep it in with a bullhead catfish and I used a water chiller. It was a 100 gallon I use wood and rocks from Lake Superior in Michigan. It was an iteresting tank.

I agree that its more than likely a grass, redfin, or chain pickerel. If its a grass or redfin a 75g would be best but a 55 or 40 breeder would be bare minimum. Chain pickerels get much bigger so they fall into the 400g and up range. I recently got my grass pickerel on pellets but it was after starving him for 3 weeks. Pics of your fish should determine what species it is.
