I am moving a bit more north, to South Dakota, in a couple of weeks. A lot of my friends up there are telling me they are catching Northern Pike. In doing research there are quite a few lakes and rivers with pike and some musky up in the area as well. I know these big fish require big gear, so for those of you who fish consistently for Pike and or Musky, what size/type of gear do you use? Line? Rod? Reel? Etc?

I just want to make sure I am prepaired. Thanks!

i want to know about muskie fishing too- ive never caught one, ive seen them caught from trolling off of a boat but never from shore.

I like by the lake where the most muskie get pulled out its like 1 in every 20 casts is a muskie, talking to the old "salts" you need a foot or two of steel leader for muskie with pike you should be fine with regular line. I have pulled in smaller pike on an Aglia spinner but chubs works good too. musky you want a heavier rod 7' ugly stick would probably work. Line wise i couldn't really tell you, i stick with 8-12 lb mono which should probably do you pretty well.
