Black River Bay - Norther New York.
Went out today with the kids. I had a fat 36 inch Northern pike. My daughter caught her first... 23 inches with a little nub of worm on a number 2 hook, right after I got finished telling her that pike prefer lures or live bait fish.
Smallies from from 14-19 inches are hitting at 10-30 feet of water around stoney point and stoney island. Tubes, harnesses, lures of all shapes and sizes, and regular old worm on a hook.
Walleye from 18-25 inches are hitting good all along the bay at 14-30 feet from 6:30PM to 8PM. I have been using jigs and saltwater sand eels from ebay. The wife is using harnesses and regular old hook and worm.
If you really suck at fishing - hook and worm can get you sunnies, rock bass, silver bass all day long.
Salmon will be running soon so people without downriggers should be able to get some action.
The water is in the low 60s right now so the bigger fish are moving into more shallow water to suffer my wrath.
