im getting a glass 50 gallon and using a h.o.t. magum filter on it. im planning to buy a african pike from rarefish but i want a cool catfish/bottom dweller that will clean all that extra food really well. any suggestions? oh yea, im planning to keep it bare. its a friend's tank i'll have pics when i get it setup.

i used cray fish in a piranha tank and they work great..

the crays were meant to be food for the p;s but u no rest

None. Im pretty sure african pikes get to big for that tank by themselves.

Chad

any kind of sucker fish or small catfish that could be kept with a african pike. something small enuff for the 50, but big enuff to hold its on ground. someone please!!

I got the sudden urge to turn the tank brackish.

this is how i set it up, i theres a piece of floating driftwood at the top of my 50 gallon tank. i was thinking about getting 2 archers. anyone noe of any good brackish cleanerfish? and has anyone kept archers before? do they actually shoot down insects in the home aquarium?

That tank is way too small for Archers. You need 100 gallons plus. Even bigger if you want to lower the water for them to shoot at prey. Loads of info about them on the brackish board. Do a search.

Go back to thinking Africans. West African biotope for you.

10 Congo Tetra, A pair of Yellow Cheek Kribs, 1 African Butterfly, and a pair of Upsidedown Catfish(sydo nigriventris). And if you can find a small grower get an elephant nose. It's pushing it but of everything else is happy and you find one, try it out.

After you cycle, start off with the Congos and some java moss. Expect to loose a couple. Pick up the butterfly and the upsidedown cats at Petco soon after.

Do a lot of reading up on the Kribs and test before you buy them a few weeks later. You'll be happy and so will all your fish. Especially when it's time to rip the legs off some crickets on "Live Food Friday"

ok, ferget about the brackish. i just refilled the tank with fresh water. that african biotope sounds pretty dope but i was looking for one big fish i could keep in a 50 for life. something that is a good pet like an oscar, im not totally against gettin an oscar but i just want to know bout the other fish out there. also looking for a good cleaner fish, if there is a catfish/pleco that i could keep in there with it.
