Do you think a crenicichla sveni would be too small to house with a jag? I'll have tons of jag-proof caves and such. If you think it would work what size tank?

of course it can work, just not in a 55 gal tank. i wouldnt reccomend it with less than a 75 gal tank, and then the jag HAS to be female and you would still have to keep an eye on things once the fish got some size on them. best tank size would be 120 gal and up. this size tank would also afford you more water volume for greater stability with paramaters, and depending on footprint, more tankmates.
hmm since the saxatilis species like your sveni are pretty aggresive, it might work. I have never kept Jaguars so I don't really know what there aggression is like, but it also depends on the individual fish - I have had peaceful -supposedly- cichlids beat the crap out of more aggresive ones before. Just give them enough space and you most likely will be fine. Oh and tons of hiding spots.
I have always had parachromis species with pikes and I have never had an issue. They usually leave each other alone for the most part as long as the Pike knows it's place....Basically, as long as the Pikes in my tank don't challenge for the top spot, they usually are left alone......Well, except for my current pike, it hates flowerhorns for some reason, but eh, **** it, thats my girls fish....hahaha
