over there boi
I have a 13" venz that just stopped eating all of a sudden. He used to be homed in a 180g with my other cichlids, now he is by himself in a 55g. I am trying to nurse this guy back to health but he wont eat anything. I have tried market shrimp, krill, guppys, rosy reds he is not intersted. He is starting to not look to good. Suggestions on getting this fish to feed.

Whats the Ph and temp in the tank he's in now, when was the last time you tested your water?

Everything with my water is spot on. I have every test kit needed. He's just gone on a hunger strike is this normal for pikes. This thing use to eat like a pig.

hard telling man my brother had a problem like that his saxitilis just stopped eating for like a month i know they get hold in thye head easy my piked died a week ago im thinking caused by iternale parisites by feeding it live foors deffinetly check your water like jumbie said if all checks out could be internale

Clean the filter and change the carbon. Do a 50% WC two days later. If thats doesn't do the trick then it's time to try some meds.

I feel ur pain too, I lost one of the rarest pikes out there. I had the same signs, he stop eatting and became very in active but I was being lazy and dont anything to save him. RIP "big head" you will forever be missed!!

I think i will try meds. But what am i treating for i am not gonna start dumping random chemicals into the water. I had a GT do the same thing the GT had stingy poop the pike nothing like that.

Don't just start meds on a guess, they can do just as much damage as they can help. How long has it been since he's eaten? What exactly are the water parameters? Giving us the numbers will help. No tankmates?

Maybe try a live night crawler, or a small crayfish/fiddler crab. I've found even sick fish have a hard time turning down a fat worm.

Dont get me wrong i appreciate the response, but when somebody says they test there water with test kits and there params are spot on. Why do people continue to inquire. And I see this on so many threads dont get it. I done a large water change and added some salt ill see how it goes. Thanks for all the help all.

Personally, i keep asking because there is a lot of differing opinions on what 'acceptable' parameters are. Lots of people say everything tests out OK, but what is ok? I would say the majority of people on MFK would say 40ppm is acceptable, but for me, its not. 20ppm is the limit in my tanks, but everyone has their own opinion. We are just wondering what yours is.

I Mod on an oscar forum, and I will admit, we can be a bit 'Nitrate Nazi', but there is a lot of room for error with some test kits. For one, some people use dip strips which are very vague, and are easily contaminated. They can be very in accurate. And two, a lot of folks use the liquid test kits incorrectly.

I mean, we are trying to help you out, so why are you getting defensive? Its not hard to post the numbers.

You asked for help and that's what I was trying to do... The first thing I would do is test my water, my actions all depends on the water test results! Thats why people are sking the results of your test. Is the ph in the tank the same as the ph in his other housing? Is the heater working? Maybe he need some hiding places; starting out with salt is better then adding chemicals but it won't help if it's intestinal parasites. A Metronodazole abx would help if it's intestinal parasites but the problem is the fish needs to eat the meds LOL. Also it well help to know the temp of the tank he's in, a higher temp will increase fish appetites. For example when I treat my fish for ick I add 1 table spoon of salt per gallon for two days and increase the temp. The raise in tepm does not help with getting rid of the ick. Ick stresses fish and a stressed fish has little to no appetite, so you raise the temp to increase the appetite. Keep us posted and remember we are trying to help but we could only help as much as u will allow us to.
