i've got some space to fill in my 125g and ive been considering a pike. i mainle have cichlids in there but i also have 2 bichirs, a 7" senegal and a 5" delhezi. they are very chill even with my 2.5" psittacus. im wondering if a pike would work with them. im looking for one thats about 4-5" now that grows to about 12". if necessary i would/could move the bichirs to another tank. i really only worry about the del since he's kinda skinny and alot smaller than the senegal. most of my LFS get orange pikes or gold flake pikes but im considering doing a rapps order soon and he has sp. ‘Maicuru’ in stock that i may order. any thoughts?

My Xingu1 eats anything that he can get in his mouth. Other than that he is pretty docile.

my pikes don't ever seem to bother my bichirs.

great! i went by two LFS today to check out their stock. one had an orange pike for $25 at 3", "xingu I" im assuming, and a gold flake pike for $35 @ 3", saxatilis right? then i went to the next and they had "red pikes" for $15 at 3.5" so i picked him up. im not sure on the exact species but from pictures it looks like a "Belly Crawler". i will post a pic of him later this evening.

so far in my 125g he is getting along with everyone, making himself comfortable hunder some driftwood :D

they usually dont get along with other pikes in a tank, right?

red pike usually means johanna, but it is not. It's not a bellycrawler, either. Get some more pix once it settles in and ID will be easier.

gold flake is a common name for lepidota, but the chances of it being that are slim. But, you're right, saxatillis group, other than lepidota, get that common name, too.

whatever it is, you'll be happy with it.
