how would i get a permit for a pair of arapaima in the state of texas? how much is it? tank will be roughly 20,000 gallons if/when it is constructed. i can give you all a stock list if you want it, but if you don't i wont bother as it is so long:D main fish are 'pimas, pbass, aros, pacu, large cats, bichirs, etc. does anyone have experience obtaining permits from TPWD? if so please post.

Pima's are restricted/prohibited in TX?

Call them and speak Directly. With 20,000gallons. You may be able to do something as Educational. You better have your plans together, first and be persistent and nice. Sometimes you just need to get the right person willing to help.

Good luck

Contact your local fish and game and ask them how to apply for a permit, that would be my best thought. Tell them it's for exhibit/display purposes and where are you building it? Make sure they know the fish has no way of getting out and tell them they can come by to "inspect" the future enclosure. I suggest sounding as intelligent as you can, but not snobby.

Good info, I also suggest having the whole enclosure built first. Make it aesthetically pleasing so they are more prone to liking it.

Good luck and I hope this turns out well, what are you also going to stock it with?

thanks, i think in the end i will be sucessful, as the houston zoo has a 5-6 footer in a tank less than half the size of that,:screwy: it is severely stunted, is banged up, fins are torn, it has the stripes, but they are a barely visible charcoal gray, i fell horrible having paid admission, i do not expect it to live much longer:cry: next time i go i will stay 'till closing time, then tape a paper to the tank asking " where did you get that driftwood?" and tell them to email me. then, slip in that the pima has a lot of promise and a nice pattern (which it does) and say all they need to do is bring out the red (send a pic of sam) and it will be a customer magnet! when they ask how tell them that the first thing to do is get a bigger tank, similar to/larger than john's and then say get a blue background, and when/if they do tell them to feed it like john's feeds his beauties. problem solved! even if it doesn't develop color tell them it must be menalistic (as if) and it will have a bigger tank!:D
