pimafix dosage???

hey all, my male festae has an open ulcer on his side with white and red edges, i think its a fungus... the wound was initially caused by my odoe, he is a sod and sold now pending collection. anyhow i lost my convict after a wound from the pike last week and im sure it was a fungal infection that invaded the wound that ultimately ended his days... the festae has the same wound pretty much, on the convict it lifted scales around the wound and turned red??? fungal or bacterial?? would it white over with healing anyway, could it be just t6he wound healing???

the tank has been running for over a year, size is in my signiture and there have been new additions without quarentineing lately... i water change every 1 to two weeks 50 percent and do the filters once a month.

ive treated with waterlife myxazin x2 concentrate for 3 days now dosing at 40ml for the 300g, i also added 520g of aquarium salt (all they had at the lfs not enough i know!) yesterday...

going to do a water change in a min and dose again with myxazin and maybe get more salt once ive been to the dentist today..

i bought some api pimafix yesterday and the teenager pointed out that the 118ml bottle says it treats 920l, my tanks around 1000l so i thought close enough, after reading the bottle at home it says 5ml per 40l so basically an entire bottle every day??? is that right? im not planning on dosing until the myxazin course is done and 48 hours and waterchange has passed but want to make sure the dose is right, any help?

been reading up on pimafix and i dont think im gonna use it, contains clove oil!!!! i have waterlifes protozine and octozine to hand, also some tetracycline antibiotic as a last resort... octozine contains some antibiotic i think but protozines for fungus... the myxazin is for ulcers and bacteria...

I have never been a fan of Pima or Melafix, however they seem to be great fishroom deodorizers.. I would just use salt and water changes. You could also get some Methylene Blue or Betadine and put a couple of drops directly on the wound.

Just use kosher salt. 1C =60 gallons

the wound has continued getting worse and worse... i moved him to my growout which will already be cross contaminated encase you were wondering... no other fish are showing any signs of illness yet but i really need to know what this is... the convict looked the same when he passed so he hasnt got long, thinking about euthanasia as you can see its horrific!-(

Treat with Maracyn-Two or API Furan 2 if that's not available. You should also use Methylene blue or Betadine and put a couple of drops directly on the wound, as suggested eirlier as a topical treatment, while treating with the Antibiotics. Do a large water change and follow the directions on the package. Even if you can't get meds the betadine is available at any drug store and will help disinfect the wound.

Note if your PH is ~7.5 or higher and/or you have hard water use API Triple sulfa if it's available it will be more effective. GL

couldnt get either anti biotic listed, ive had to buy maracyn 2 on ebay before but im in the uk and it takes weeks to arrive, im pretty sure any fish antibiotics in the uk have to come from a vet and they have to see the fish... ridiculous! i have some tetracycline which i had left over, another antibiotic (from ebay china!) ive started a course of this since finishing the waterlife myaxin course... ive dosed both tanks with salt...

both tanks have a ph of 8
ammonia less than 0.3 mg/l
nitrite of 0 mg/l

he's swimming upside down now, scooped him up and used methlene blue on him i got 30min ago...

dont think he'll see the morning tbh..

If that's all you have go for it. I hope the fish survives, the meth blue will help too. Keep it dark and quite and cross your fingers.

cheers mate, the odoe pike is gone now... sold, a shame cause i grew him from 2 to 12 inch in a year.. it could inflict massive damage and very deep wounds due to its teeth, if you look on the first pic theres an entry wound from its bottom teeth i assume.
