This is my dominant male Honduran Red Point. He is with another male and a few females. The other male is larger, but doesn't have the same fin development or a hump on his forehead like this guy. Sorry for the crappy pics - he zooms around the tank like crazy and hardly sits still. When he does, it's never in a place with decent lighting.

1st pic is him trying to impress one of his girls. All the ladies want him!

2-4 He is chasing the other male away from his girls.

Where did you get these guys? They seem to have a little convict influence.. Are you sure they are pure HRP?

Looks like a CRAZY bastard:screwy:

Small local fish store - guy knows his stuff. I'm fairly certain they are pure. It's just all of the hormones brewing in this little fish. They are constantly geared up for breeding - he just keeps switching out they different females in the tank. He is only about 2.5"-3".

I'm pretty sure they are a cross. My HRP's don't get that color when breeding. They get blue with orange fins... I've never seen them with black on the fins.

iam sorry i have to agree with wildcaught, they dont look like pure breeds and there heads do look wierd but that may be the pictures, but you have black substrate so that may be a factor??? still nice colours tho:)

To each his/her own. I did not personally collect them from a stream in Central America, so I can't guarantee anything. And it seems like everyone out there has a different opinion on what these fish should look like. Regardless, they are in a tank where there is constant competition for the top spot. I think this is the #1 reason for the colors and physical attributes they are displaying. Before the 2nd male matured, the 1st one's colors and body structure were much different - no nuchal hump, more streamlined body. Other than the 3 vertical bars extending into the dorsal, not a bit of black in the fins. And yes, black substrate, dark background, and poorly lit. All adds up to bad pics.

Regardless of what they are (I kind of think cross as well, though) they are gorgeous fish. Your male looks really beefy! Nice fish.
