i know that this thread should be in the tank forum but in my opinion, it would be better to ask you guys for my fish is an aro.. the forum there caters to all fishes..:) my tank is very plain.. just my aro and the filter.. i was thinking of putting sand into my tank.. my question is, which is better white or black? but i am a bit hesitant because i am not sure if the undergravel filter really works and what if the accumulated waste will just hide under the sand.. that would make my fish's life miserable.. :nilly:i'm also planning to have a black background for my tank.. i have a 6 inch golden jardini.. what light color is best suited for my aro?:bling:

p.s. besides your personalized filters, it must really be hard cleaning your tank right? i mean with all the ornaments in the tank.. :headbang2

and im planning to put a janitor with him.. will the janitor suffice? i am really torn between a beautiful tank and cleanliness..Ü

so, all you have is an underground filter? if so, sand will not work.

put some plants and rocks in there, that'll make it look alot better.

upgrade to a better filter, that would be my first move

Most people put them in tanks with blueish or red like lights. :iagree:Personaly I don't like under gravel filters becuase 1 you can't get sand and 2 if you have a fish that likes to dig (if not deep enough) it won't be able to. If black and white are your only options then I say black, because most light color sands and gravels reflect light, which normally bleaches a fish's colors and in some theories glare at the bottom of the tank causes down eye (DE) in aros, but this has been proven false. and I recommend another filter and put some tall blade leaf plants and flat oval rocks will make it look nice to.

what size tank are we working with here??

a 4 feet by 2 by 3.5.. so basically, no ones recommending undergravel filter? i also have bought another filter.. i dont know what its called but it is like the conventional ones.. any more recommends?Ü

get a couple of eheim canisters instead of the undergravel filter. i would go with the black sand for sure. combined with the black background, it should make your aro's colors pop out more. i'd also throw in a nice big piece of driftwood and that's it. done.

that's an oddly sized tank and a little small for life. i don't like UGF's either. either make a wet/dry or get an HOB and a canister
