i noticed this morning that my male severum had a few pimple like growths on his lower side. he will get one, usually in the same spot, higher on his body more towards his caudal. it usually goes away after a few days. this time i noticed two or three little growths. i treated with a little melafix but should i use something else? i just did a 50-60% water change on tuesday, as i do once a week. ammonia is 0, nitrites are 0, and nitrates are 0 and pH is about 6.5. the area around where the growth is looks a little rough. any ideas what it is?

my red severum got that same thing but it was between his mouth and his left eye. it went away but then he randomly got a white gash in the same spot a few weeks later. I dont know if its related but the gash is not going away. i dont have a pic unfortunately.

add a little salt to the tank and watch it.. if it looks worse then meds are probably in order.. but if it just stays the same and eventually goes away.. it is just a superficial blemish.. but salt will help one way or the other.. make sure right amount per gallon tank.. and use only Aquarium salt..

thanks liz. i just added aquarium salt to the tank before i got online. im hoping he gets better over the next day or so or i may have to get some different meds

i am sure he will...by the way forgot to tell you....he is gorgeous..

I'd hazard a guess that it's damage from decor sean, my dominant A. heckelii had a very similiar 'pimple' on the side of his head after I changed substrates in my Eartheater community. It took a few weeks to go away but for that period is protruded a reasonable amount and was quite red.

Didn't treat with anything - just kept water quality up.

Given the abrasive damage to the body around it and the multiple popping up in the same spot I'd say he's probably crossed over some wood or a rock, rubbed it, and it hasn't begun the healing process properly. I'd give it time.

thanks japes. i recently rearranged some driftwood in the tank so you may be right

thanks liz. he's a hoss, he makes my female look like a baby :D
