hey guys i have 2 paroon sharks.
they are roughly 8inches long and nice and fat..
they have both started to grow these white/pinky pimple looking things just about there mouths. wondering what it is and how i can get rid of it?
thanks

pics, prob from glass rubbing. what size tank?

they are in a 60 right now just a grow out tank.
ya they seem to love rubbing on the glass BUT!!!

these pimple things ARE NOT in the same area. they are a little further OVER then where they tend to rub on the glass...

HOW CAN I STOP THEM FROM RUBBING?? i put a ton of live plants against all the walls of my tank ( like 120.00 worth ) and within 2-4 days all of it was floating at the top and died... i figure it might stop them... then i put air wands on every inch of hte glass ( 3 sides ) they ripped them up and out so they can " rub " again....

any help would be appreciated..

will get pics tommorrow night.

I have had this happen to stonecats, it will kill them if untreated, I used melafix on Qtips and applied it directly instead of treating the tank. I did this twice a week for a month and they did get better. Give that a try.

I would reccomend getting them a larger tank. not necessarily a 10K gallon pond yet, i'm sure you know they get to 8 feet long and are buliding their permanent residence as we speak. try getting something in the hundreds next.

as stonecat said i'd spot treat the sores with melafix.

Yes they get freaking huge and are notorious for rubbing the glass on smaller tanks. When I had my store, this guy brought in one that was at least 15in that was kept in a 55 and it was blind from all the rubbing. The poor fish was really messed up. Might as well start digging your pond when the ground thaws.

can i put them in a outdoor pond??? doesnt it have to be heated??

( paroon ) newbie.

i got these guys when they were about 2-3 inches and have had them now about 4-5 months. i just got them to grow them and trade them in for something else ( since i cant really build a 20x30 foot tank for them )

how big of a pond would i need to house them later on, do you think??

i LOVE THESE guys and dont really wanna get rid of them now but i dont want them to be harmed because i cant get a huge tank for them..
what do you guys think?? should i trade in once i heal them? or build a monster pond oudoors for them??

I'm not quite sure where Windsor is, but I'm betting that it gets cold there during the winter. Yes you will need to heat the pond, the sharks come from a tropical climate. The reason you need such a large body of water for these fish is that unlike many catfish, they are free swimmers, and don't rest on the bottom. I saw about 10 of them at Sea World Orlando on a back room tour that were in the 5-6 foot range. The pool they were in also had 4ft pacu, and it was at least 50,000 gallons.

windsor is across the river from detriot MI...

ya kinda cold

50 000 DAMN!!!

what would i need for 2???

thanks for the great info!
