Hey Everyone:

I picked up an NTT a few weeks ago. He is about 8-9", active, and eats market shrimp and FD Shrimp aggressively. Heathy overall. I visually check my fishes everyday, and today I discovered two pimples on his head-- which were not there yesterday morning. They look like they are ready to burst, so I pulled him out of the tank and am in the process of placing him into quarantine.

I have attached a few pics. Can anyone tell me about what this is and the proper way to treat it? For now, I'll be adding some salt and keep temps around 82F and hope that whatever it is will run its course. Never had a fish with this before. Hope its not too contangious to the other fishes.

Water Params are: Temp 80 / Nitrate 10 ppm / Nitrite 0 / Ammonia 0 / pH 6.8. I do about a 25-33% water change weekly, and the tank is 210 gal. Tankmates consists of a blk aro around 15"; a 9-10" NTT, 2 smaller 4-5" NTT and a 5-6" Indo Dat.

Any info will be appreciated! Thanks!

Hmm cant tell you what it is as I've never seen it myself. It seems your on the right track by Q'ing him and adding salt and temp though. GL and keep us updated.

Datnoid disease. Water changes and keep up with the salt and heat. Try searching through the boards for datnoid disease. Good thing you caught it early.

I am thinking the same thing as Sinister. Hopefully you can get back in shape, and once you do consider doing larger water changes. You have a big bioload their and dats need perfect water conditions.

Thanks for the info. I'll definately increase the volume of water during my water changes for the main tank.

Else, I'll keep you guys posted on how the big fella is doing in the quarantine. He has been a little shy lately, as it is a new environment and he doesnt have any friends with him.

I did some extra reading - and its appears that some believe this is a protozoan caused disease. If that is the case, would a UV sterilizer help reduce the likelihood of my dats from getting such infected in the future?
