Pine as Driftwood

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't have any experience with that, but I would think pine would be a poor choice for an aquarium; I don't know what leeching pine resin would do to a tank, but I can't imagine it would be good (?)

i heard/read that pine excreets these fluids that poisons the fish.... but idk, ima w8 for a pro to put more info about this... and i just wouldn't do it... pine doesn't have a good view...

I would imagine that all that pine sap coming out would do a number to your filter impeller, sort of like pouring syrup in your tank.

thx when i was boiling it al lot of the resin came out and turrned the water brownish black with chunks of it floating around
All woods release tannins, especially when boiled. This is harmless to the fish, but will turn your water brown or yellow. They must be soaked for 2-4 weeks or boiled repeatedly to prevent this.

Pine is a softwood, and softwoods are NOT suitable for aquaria.

I'll add one more to the pile. Pine sap is nasty stuff, and pine wood turns to sawdust-flavored oatmeal when wet. Not all softwoods are bad- I have baldcypress and red cedar in some of my tanks- but pine, spruce, and fir are no good as tank decor.
