Im very new to rays. I know when i got her her belly was a nice cream color. I looked tonight after the lights have been off. she was swimming up the side of the tank and i noticed near her mouth down the middle was pinkish. I have pfs as a substrate. The tank she came out of wasnt the best substrate. It was blue "kid tank" gravel. Should I be ok?

Could be the sand. Could be water conditions (check ammonia for sure and check nitrite anyway while you're there). Could just be normal, lots of young rays have this - search and you'll find loads of similar threads.

i should add the tank is a 220. 30 gal sump with scrubbies. eheim 2229 wd filter, emperopr 400,xp4 canister
tank has been up and running for 3 months. everything was transfered from established 125

I've experienced this from my own experience, and I have to say that most smaller rays have a pinker belly. But I'm also assuming your ray is still young yet so here is the question, how big is the ray?

The ray is 5". After doing some research i did find it seems to be common in young rays. The pink is by no means raw, abbraised or red.

Then I say you shouldn't really need to worry unless the ray is showing signs of being stressed. If the ray acts fine and is still eating fine, then there isn't any reason to worry. I'm also assuming the ray is a motoro? As both my female motoro pups from the past had pinker bellies compared to my maturing or matured male at around 10"-12".

I also see this is more common in motoros, and retics as well.

You are correct in assuming it is a Motoro. I will keep an eye on it. Thanks for your time and help
