Pink fenestratus. I've seen them called: fenestratus cf. "red piebald", "pink", "lago catemaco", sp. catemaco, even sp. catemaco "white/gold". Are these all the same species? Is it just variation like you see with midas?

Same fish. There are some claims that certain ones come from the north shore or something of the sort, but they all come from catemaco lake in mexico and to me are the same fish. I label mine as Paratheraps Fenestratus "Catemaco".

But I own all 3, the Fen Red/Blue head, Fen PiBold, and the Catamaco. And they all 3 are clearly a different color. At first when small I couldnt tell the difference, but now older, clear as the nose on your face.

This coincides with what Don Conkel has said about them. Apparently there are geological factors that prevent the different populations from coming into contact with one another.
I've seen various specimens from different parts of the lake and I've kept the 'goldflake' variety. I can't tell the difference between the different collection points (North shore, east shore, etc.) but will say that the ones i saw labelled 'piebald' showed the most variation. Some were grey, some white w/ black, some showed oranges, reds and yellows, and others were pure white.

Different colors do not always make a different fish. The colored ones also can throw wild morph fry that all look identical. Mine throw fry that can be anything from wild morph to every color variation that you list as different populations. I get wild morph, solid white, white with pink face, white with black spots, almost all pink, etc.

These fish always bring up a some debate. The wild morphs that I get do look different then the riverine variety that Conkel sells as red/blue head. But they look exactly like any pictures I've seen of wild morph ones collected in the lake.

Any chance that you can throw some pics up Madness just so everyone can see what you are seeing? Have you spawned them and grew out fry to see if you get consistant fish that look like there parents? If I have time this weekend I'll try to get some pictures of some of my growouts from my pair to show the huge variety of colors that I get from my group.

I do have pics and will try and do that later on. Son just texted and is ready to be picked up. LOL As for spawns, none yet. I ordered all of them as small guys & girls,. say about 2", must are about 5" now, one of the Blu/Red Fens is about 9" but he is a freakin chunk and a pig. LOL My Catamacos are also about 8" now, but no spawns yet.

Thanks for the replies all! What I was getting at was; will a "catemaco" fen put out a variety of offspring type. Is it straight mendelian dominant/recessive, mitochondrial? Is there somewhere I can find that type of info?
