I purchased a cute little pink parrot cichlid this evening at my local walmart.

This is my first cichlid in years, the last ones I had were convicts. My old tank (a 55) had crashed and I lost everything, when I was 8-9.

I was curious as to whether she is just "painted" or a Jellybean (probably not much difference)

I read about the painting techniques, and I was wondering if there's anything I can do to help my new family member with her immune system.

Also, I have her in quarentine, sequestered from my goldfish in my 75 gallon tank, would it be safe to turn her loose with them? She's only about an inch and a half long, about the size of my smallest goldfish.

Other tankmates would include, (1) 3 inch common pleco, and a bullhead catfish about 4 inches long, who has never bothered any of my other fish in the 4 months we've had him.

Also, is regular cichlid food OK for her? Or do I need something else? When I set up a seperate Cichlid tank (which will be within a month or 2) What would be essential?

Lastly, is there anything I need to add to her water now? I'm pretty sure my goldfish are hardy enough to withstand anything that she'll need.

Thanks!!

its a hybrid and most likely painted if it is pink

they will try to eat anykind of food but since there mouths cant close what ever can fit in there mouths

well the sign said painted....so I figured that, I'm just horrified as to what the poor thing had to go through, just to be pink!!

So a hybrid would be the "jelly bean" then?

Is there anything her water needs now?

I have this blackwater stuff that I purchased for my young red belly piranha, would this be helpful for her? or not.

should be fine how it is
i mean did you cycle your tank, and how are your water parems?

I'm not sure on my water params, I've never measured it, and the tank has been up for about a year, with frequent partial water changes, and occasional large water changes (my goldfish are PIGS!!)

As I said in my first post, I have her in my 75 gallon goldfish tank, but seperated from them for the time being. They're all sharing the same water, I just have a barrier between her and them until I find out if she's a fin nipper.

I have one moor that ALWAYS gets picked on by any fin-nipping fish. So this is why I'm curious.
