Pink Salvini?

Has anyone heard of a salvini turning pink? I have a female salvini who started off yellow and has progressively gotten a rosey pink all over. I stuck her in a 37g tank temporarily and I've kept some California stone in the tank bare bottom and she's almost identical in color to it now. I'm sure the rock is influencing her, but she was already changing before then. Her cheeks are sometimes a solid yellow, but other times she's all one color.

a week ago. Unsure why she looks faded under this light, but it's much richer color in person. Even more so than the times above

I cannot answer your question. But it may be a hybrid. Possibly but I don't think that's the answer either.

Fairly interesting though.

that's what I was thinking too but she looks so salvini I don't know if it's possible she's a hybrid. I've never seen the red almost mix together with the yellow like this before. since she's so young still maybe the reds will continue to darken and it'll be less pink. It's a local breeder so I'll have to get their contact info and see what they say. has anyone seen them turn these colors before?

Looks like it's all in the light. The rock and background look pinkish too.

Shouldn't be a hybrid - more than likely just a very colorful Salvini. No body characteristics or coloring shows a hybrid, as a lot more would be different if it were the case. Very nice looking cichlid non-the-less.

thank you hoyo. and I agree gutted, I think the rock plays a huge part except she had been turning pink even before then. she's probably just a lady and prefers pink over red

Update on her. I gave her to my LFS since I have an awesome relationship with the owner. I decided to part with her after we decided to get some juvies and I felt like the risk outweighed the reward adding such a large fish back into the large tank. I didn't have the heart to keep her in my 37g solo for months. Here's an updated photo of her 2 days after arriving at the LFS. Not as pink under a better quality light and black gravel and background! She's going to be SO gorgeous when full grown!
