I have had my two pink tailed chalceus for almost 2 years now and they have never had a problem just being the two of them. The only other two fish in the tank with them are two cichlids. I am an armature fish keeper I will admit it, and that is why I am here. I have read on this sight that theses are skiddish fish that do not do well in small groups. I am kind of worried about my fish now. Seeing that they should have large tanks and I only have a 30 gallon tank. They have been through power outages that have dropped the temperature and I have had trouble with pH and hardness but they have not seemed to mind. Are these fish as resilient as they seem? Is the behavior I am seeing abnormal of theses fish? Also I decided a while back to to get to know my fish better than just cleaning their tank and now they eat shrimp from my fingers when I offer it to them. I did not see this to be a problem since I do not intend of releasing them into the wild but I am worried the behavior is too abnormal for the species. Can anyone give me any feed back on whether or not my fish are ok or if I have messed them up terribly?

These are beautiful fish,i also had two in a 150 gallon tank, which i felt was too small for them, they are skittish, when they get spooked boy do they swim, striaght into the pain on the other side, mine was 5/2/2ft

Every fish eventhough the same breed is different. I would say an upgrade in the size of tank would definately need to be in your future for those guys. As long as your tank parameters (i.e. Ph, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate) are at the right levels and you keep up on your water changes, your fish should be fine for a short period. Just enjoy them and try to do your best for them.
