I have a group of 5 Pinoy Angels in a 55 gallon with a Geophagus Jurapari and all has been going well until this past weekend. 1 of the Angels stopped eating so I removed it from the tank and placed it in a 10 gallon hospital tank and after a few days proceeded to treat with Metro in hopes of getting it to start eating again. Anyway the fish died. The fish looked fine, but just started gasping and hanging out by itself at the bottom of the tank. I'm wondering if these fish require a much softer water or maybe it was getting picked on by the others, although I didn't witness this. Anyway, I'm hoping someone with experience with this species will chime in. The PH is around 7 and the jurapari doesn't mess with them at all. I'm just wondering if this was a ramdom death or if maybe I need to take another look at how I'm keeping them. I was giving them Bloodworms on occasion and have since stopped.

This isn't a fish with any special requirements than normal domestic angels. WHen it stopped eating, did you notice any stringy poo? It might have been bloated,

I would say keep an eye on your other angels. If its something that's in the tank that caused the death, others might show symptoms. It might be a random death..

The fish did seem slightly bloated when I found it dead. But prior to that I didn't notice any bloating. I'm wondering if the other 4 might have been harassing it and I just didn't notice. I hope if was some sort of random death and not the start of something else. I did a water change on the 55 gallon last night and am planning to do another on Thursday morning and continue on through the weekend just to be on the safe side.

That seems like a good idea.
In the past I have been guilty of over feeding. I think water changes are more important than heavy feeding AFA delicate fish like angels are concerned. Once they hit adult size, I starve them once a week, so their intestines have a chance to clear.

Sounds like you have Pinoy as well? Mine are amazing. I'm actually upset about the one dying. I think the Pinoy rival some of the Discus I've kept in the past and I'm shocked at the amount of color these guys are showing and they are quickly becoming my favorites but they do seem less aggresive then my blues. I have them in a tank with a lone Geophagus Juripari and I think the geophagus thinks she is the parent lol. They have been together the entire time and the Geo is very gentle with them.

I have several pinoys (black base phillipine blue) as well as normal blue silvers. So far I would say pinoys are about as equally aggressive as the silvers.

I agree, the black base color does bring out nice blue shade and it appears to have more blue than normal silvers do.
