bellevue, ne
in a year or two i am going to have to move to a larger aquarium from the 75 i have. what types of costs would i be looking at for an enormous self built custom tank possibly 8'lengh, 5' width, 4' tall i would only want 2-3 viewable sides

1 whats the preferred material
2 filtration
3 heating
4 cost (im crossing my fingers for less than 3000)

well, if you go plywood then you can save a substantial amount of money if you were gonna go with all glass.

ya thats the way to save money if u have time

and, instead of getting one large sheet of glass/acrylic, if you want to keep saving, go with glass instead of acrylic. Acrylic will weight a lot less but it's far more expensive.

Instead of getting one large sheet, get two smaller pieces and fit them into the side like in the drawing below.

ya thats what im doing right now my 600 gal is almost done. glass is the way to go. it depends on how big and how much money u have, im going 2 pices of glass. i split it that way it cheaper, i did that bc i just need this tank for now for fish that are getting to big

There's no reason why you can't do it. Other than doubling the price of the glass.

With plywood tanks, you'll need to limit yourself to a 4ft width instead of 5ft. Unless you custom order the plywood, you'll only find 3/4" and 1" CDX plywood in 4ft x 8ft sizes. For a 5ft width you'll have to have a wide overlap piece over the seam that'll look unsightly.
