Thinking of converting a community tank into a red bellied pirahna tank and need help on best possible setup. i have a 4ft * 2Ft tank,
2 external filerts pumping out around 1200 litres an hour
300w heater.
sunglo and aquaglo 4ft uva and uvb lights
2 air pumps

just basic setup at moment with gravel base and ornaments, fake plants.
Thinking of a sand base no ornaments and live plants so any help and things i need to get and change any help will be a bonus! already got "black water" chemical and heard that you can keep red bellied pacus and any crustatean thats aggressive and big with them but not sure about silver dollars, plecs ect

any help would id be thank full :nilly:

Rbp's are omnivours, not just carnivours. In nature, they are mostly vegetarian part of the year. However, you may want to consult with a rbp owner to see if keeping them well fed will keep them from eating the plants.

being a piranha owner myself, i would invest in a canister filter as apposed to the hob that you have. cannisters have a larger capasity for bio-media, which is essential for piranhas because they are such messy eaters and create a lot of waste. i would still use the hob that you have, but use them in addition to a cannister. as a reference i would aim for 10x turnover/hour. but of course this all depens on the numer of p's in the tank.
