For anyone in the Reading Pa. area...A-Z Pets in Exeter has a 3in. baby piraiba for $100......i cant afford it nor do i have a tank big enough. It looked a bit thin though....hollow bellied....if i only had the money.....

I've never heard of the place,do they have a nice selection of fish?

Maybe I'm wrong but is that not a ridiculously low price for such a sought after fish? I would be interested to know if it's a true piraiba or just incorrectly labeled.

no it is NOT mislabeled.......i took one look at it and and my husband and I said they should put a warning on the tank as to mature size coz there are a lot of idiots aroud here that know nothing about fish....you know buy that cute baby gar and then throw it in the lake when it gets big.....

I am guessing it is the false piraiba aka Brachyplatystoma capapretum. Still a good price for one. Need a pic.

Dang, if that place was closer to me and it really is a Fila then I could see an imminent impulse buy and the building of a multi thousand gallon pond in my future :)

I give this a 99.999% chance of being Brachyplatystoma capapretum (which is called the 'false piraiba'; it ONLY gets to 4' long). They're profoundly more common than true piraibas, cheaper than true piraibas and unless you've spent a LOT of time investigating the difference, nearly impossible to tell apart. The price for this one is is the ballpark for typical capapretum prices as well. The half dozen true piraibas that have come in over the past decade have all been well over $1000 and still sold instantly.

We need pics.
