Does anybody agree with me that piranahs so lame...Everybody hypes them up like they are some aggressive fish.....They are big wussies....I will never by anymore of those thyngs...

people do hype them up..alot of people don't know p's are also scavengers and they usually only do serious damage in groups

i think they're pretty cool. they might not be the man eater that you were expecting, but they are a beautiful fish that, once they come out of their shell, are a lot of fun to watch. it does take some patience though.

my arrows will eat them for a snack...haha

Not sure about over- rated, just adding my own two cents on keeping piranhas.
I was thinking why keep them?...They seem to need a species tank, sometimes turn cannibal and seem to be shy and skittish or somewhat boring to watch.

Then I found a nice pic of one( hey this is a beautiful fish) and read some info about them which lead me to appreciate them more.
I got to thinking I keep plecos who do almost nothing but hide, surely a piranha cannot be less or more boring then this. I love my plecos, cannot say a fish that hides the majority of the time is terribly interesting to watch.
I keep bettas who may kill each other during breeding at the drop of a hat if one of them doesn't like the other one or doesn't feel like breeding that momment. I take it as a annoying drawback when keeping bettas.
So in the end piranhas are just another fish to keep, though they may not be my choice or apparently yours.

I like piranhas to look at, beautiful fish. But.... yeah I'd agree there over-rated. People who don't keep fish, if you ask them whats a dangerous fish everyones like piranha, piranha piranha....

They don't even seem that aggressive, except when their in larger groups... They always make me think of crack head muggers, you know the type who only every strike when their in much greater numbers then the enemy...

I like them in other people's tanks, but I'd never want any myself...

If you want aggression there's so many cooler more aggressive predators, if you want a good looking fish, again there's a million anyone would pick over a piranha...

I'm amazed so many people keep them!

Overrated?Theres some pretty fish that can be challenging to keep successfully. If you were expecting to put 1 in a 10g tank and have it be a movie monster yea youll be dissapointed. But Ive seen a few large tanks with schoals of pirana that were awesome displays!

I dunno about you guus cuz where I'm from, we can't get piranhas... but I would really love to see a school of them and have them in an 8 feet tank...
Seeing them shoal and feed should be just amazing... something I could probably not get to see...

Any good substitutes for that? Personally I think the red bellied piranhas are real pretty...
