hello, I have a rbp as you obv found out, he is is a 40 with filtration for a 70 a penguin 50 and marina s20, also a heater kept at 28-29'c. he used to be with two dwarf marble convicts that bullied him ( he is almost 10 inches i'd say and they were 2" lol. anyways i got rid of the convicts and got a rope fish and a albino electrition catfish ( related to walking catfish)after doing research i bought myself a lid. and this morning after having this catfish for one night i found him ripped in half. I also think he has some sort of bipolar disorder as he thinks he is a gourami and swims with them ( not chasing them) and he shares his dino house with the rope fish, there is plenty of plants and flower pots too hide in but they all choose to stick together. and the piranha like it when the lite is on low. and prefers to sleep for half a day. At night he turns into a beast a rapidly lurks the tank in which i belive he ripped the poisonous catfish in half. lol. soooo any funny stories with these weird guys? btw i have a outgrow tank 90 waiting for them. and also my amonia is zero no chlorine put aquarium salt in water changes weekly and feed him daily shrimp and maybe some krill with bloodworm squares occasionly. any help on this weird piranha behaviour? what i could do too help? and if u got a rope fish what do you feed urs? i feed him shrimp he grow almost an inch overnight:). my tank is whay you would say possesed lol.
thnx sorry bout the rambling ive been keeping fish for 6 years:screwy:

*bump*

lol how ironic i knew that but the guy at the al's said he killevery piranha in the tank 3 others and a black rhom lol. he has a little scar on his right side. but other than that a beautiful fish. i got him cause he was different but what would cause it. and ill get pics up asap in the morning when im not on my phone. thanj you for the advice

I'm not sure what's weird about your story. A Nettereri shoaling with other fish due to lack of it's own kind, taking a fatal bite from another, more active under low to no added light conditions. That is kinda normal RBP behavior with a possible preview of the fate of it's other tankmates. There are many Piranha with Red Bellies, when you post your pic for visual comformation, the RBP may turn out to be a Serrasalmus w/ a red belly which might help explain this fish not shoaling in the pet store or maybe not.

Hard to say buying a used fish, he could have been kept solo for 10years before you got him. Rbp should be kept in groups of 5 or more.your rope fish days are numbered. Funny you say the rope grows almost a inch over night because before long he'll be losing inches overnight. GL

sorry, no funny stories to share since i don't keep rbp solo. would love to see pics of your set up and the size of your's though.

will post pics tomorrow hopefully lol, but thank you for the info and he isnt ten years old, just under 2 i belive

ive solved the problem, he is a venazualen or however you spell it not a netterari but a cariba! i have to move my amazing ropefish asap! :(

Lol rbp could eat that rope just as easy as a cariba. I wasn't sayn he ten years old. My point was you don't know how long he's been solo before the Lfs got him.
