just got a new dual t5 for my 40 gal and as soon as i set it up my Red bellies freaked out and tried to squish themselfs into any bit of cover they could find they are now hiding out at the back corner of the tank how long till they get used to it and come out swimming again

piranha don't bright light...they will be scar, hide, and freak out all the time if you put t5. way to bright.

Piranha like dimmed light, they feel comfortable and will come out and swim. The only piranha i know that don't mind light is Serrasalmuc Geryi other will.

However you can trade them by getting used to light by leaving the light on all the time, but it take some time though. I had a Big rhomb before i he love bright light. i live the light on 12-14hrs for him instead of 6-8hrs for others.

i read somewhere i think that piranhas don't have eyelids...

yeah i know.. i wouldn't like bright lights either if i didn't have eyelids..

good to hear that...i would also use thin foil put between the light and glass top to dimmed the light.

That is why I dont use live plants. I use fake plants and only use the lights in my room....no tank lights. They seem to be much less skitish this way.

well allredady they are no more skitish then they where before they like to hang out undew the water lettuce now though rather then under the drift wood
