Hey need some advise!! A pair of reds in my tank have for the second time laid some eggs. How can i insure that they make it? The first time the pleco ate them i think, so this time i am going to take him out! Should i put the eggs into another tank to hatch? If so when? How do i know if the male did his thing over the eggs? Let me know THANKS!

As posted in the Piranha Forum:

To stop a filter sucking up fry, put some pant-hoes (not sure of spelling) over the intake.
I would also suggest no gravel in the fry tank, just for ease of cleaning and observing.
Thing with a tank the size of 29 gallons is, it will be harder for the fry to find the food. But if that is all you have around, it should do fine.
Keep the temperature a few degrees higher than their parents’ tank.

Also, two plants i would really recommend.
Firstly java moss for all types of fry. Fry are able to retreat into it and find microscopic food sources in it. Secondly some sort of floating plant, for as the young grow, like in the wild, they use the leaves and roots of floating plants to feel secure and safe. They will also block out light.

First off, I have bred reds for quite some time, and

1. make sure the fry tank is filled with water from the parent tank when you transfer them. This will reduce any shock that may happen due to any differances.

2. ALWAYS make sure the temp is exact as parent tank when tranfering....not higher.

3.Wait to remove the fry until they are in the wiggler stage, just after they pop thier tails from eggs.

4.Make sure to have a sponge filter cycled VERY well due to the extremly high amounta of ammonia fry put off when hatching.

5.Make sure to use a tank no smaller than a 20 gal ong, no bigger than a 30 gal. They will find food just fine since you will be feeding them all the time.

5. Hatch baby brine shrimp imediately after seeing them breed. This will take 24-36 hours for them to fully hatch, and you will want to offer food as soon as you can.

6. do atleast a 50% water change per day, sometimes up to a 90% depending on your water params. Check them constantly.

7.Feed them BBS 3-4X a day

8.Trust me, I know what I am doing.

Amazingyou know if this will work with RBPs also?
