Hello, I am interested to hear from anyone who has (planned to) breed red-bellied piranha, and been successful. I am looking to film the life cycle, so would love to know some specifics of what to look out for in their behaviour, as well as the conditions required.

Also, has anyone ever seen them breeding in the wild?!

off the top of my head -

180g probably good idea - 7-9 reds (may want to get 10-12 as a few will be eaten -

6.5 ph - heavily planted - wood flat rock or some slate

lots of filtration- i would keep it piranah only in there -

i’d imagine it will take a few years for them to mature -

dark / dark water / low light / flow

Oregon Piranha Exotic Fish Exhibit - this guy frank was/is the piranha guru - he’s on fb - his site appears to be down and out -

i’ve only kept / not bred / there’s folks breeding them in the FB groups -

GL!

probably try breeding piranha in a tank with lots of mopani wood, java moss, jungle val, and feeding them multivitamins in a 120 gallon+

For piranhas, a lot of times it just happens. Your best route would be to try to recreate the amazon rainy season that is typically associated with their breeding.
