My dad moved his two rb piranhas into a 55g tank about two months ago and now ones dead. I got them for him last fathers day and all was good. Is it because the weren't in a scoll? I told him to add two more but he liked having just two. Now the one ate the other. Anyway i was wondering can i buy 3 new ones at a smaller size and add them? The one he has is about 6inches. I don't know much on them but i think if i add just one it would get killed right away because now the one owns the whole tank. any info would be great thank you.

its tough to add rbp. what i did when i added, take out the one and put him in a bucket. rearrange tank and put in 3 more. then add the big one and chase them with the net so they will school. but nothing will fix the fact that its only a 55g. mine would always attack eachother when they were in the 55g

i don't find it hard at all to add new ones but the problem i see in your situation you'd want the new piranhas to be atleast 4 inches to add with a 6 inches piranha. The advice above is great for what to do when you add them to the tank though.

having only 2 may have something to do with the piranha gettin eaten. with only one in the tank, the aggression from the dominate piranha is inflicted on one piranha instead of spread throughout the shoal

with the fish being six inches you may want to keep him solo and have a nice show specimen depending on his attitude.

thanks. Ya i want to get my dad on cichlids but he loves his pirahnas. I would hate to see him spend 60bucks on a couple new ones just to have them killed. I want to try getting him to trade it in for cichlids. I think they are much more interactive. hard to teach an old dog new tricks. But its his tank :)

i would do what was said above get a couple around the same size and i would feed the one you have before you add the others as well.. you would also be pushing it with 3 of them in that size of tank.. could work if theres alot of plant coverage to hide just my 2cents

ya he has tons of plants. Thanks for all your help im just going to tell him he needs to get cichlids lol.

he doesn't NEED to get cichlids, he could however use them as feeders :) j/k
if he wants to stick with piranhas then what about trading the big one for few small ones to start a new shoal?
