I've been trying meds for about 2 weeks now, he gave up eating like 3 weeks ago. Not sure what I can do now. He was my first fish that I bought in like 10 years and I managed to keep him for more than a year. (When I was 8-10 years old, I never managed to hold onto a fish for more than a month). I guess it's time for the freezer....

no freezer thats cruel id just cut him. but good question. what are the params and where did you get him?

The water is all fine except its slightly acidic and low alkalinity (20). I'll do a 60% water change and see if he wants to get up. But I don't think keeping him like that for much longer is nice.

There really is no point in keeping alive much longer. As I was doing the water change, you can tell he wasn't going to live much longer.

slightly acidic is a good thing. the amazon is slightly to seriously acidic. By fine do you mean Ammonia: 0 Nitrites: 0 and NitrAtes: <25ppm? What does alkalinity 20 mean? pH is a range that represents the concentration of dissolved hydrogen ions it starts at 0 (most acidic) and goes to 14 (most alkaline). More H+ ions means more acidic, and thus lower pH. What other fish are in the tank? Are any of your other fish sick? Have you changed anything recently? How often and what do you feed? What size is the tank? Do have a pic of your tank?

Sounds like a swim bladder problem maybe.

what do you mean by slight acidic? 6, 5, 4?
what's the parameter from your tap water? if your tap water is not good then doing water change won't fix the problem. do you dechlorine before you put new water in tank? not sure if it's a good idea to shock your fish if it's not feeling well already. what's water temperature?

if its a serra young serras tend to slant sides ways a lot it is normal. As long as he is not completely parallel with the bottom of the tank and just bobbing there I would say he is just doing his thing, trying to make himself seem smaller and less visable to you. If he is sideways and still seems to be swimming there may be nothing wrong with him.

My guess is that his test result is 20ppm. Anything below 80ppm(the lower the better) is considered little buffering capability. With only 20ppm it would be easy to keep his pH is the 5's if everything else was correct.
