landlocked.
what is the average prices of a Serrasalmus spilopleura? there's one at a lfs at 5" and it's going for $120.00 CAD.

there's also a Serrasalmus gibbus listed to come in soon at 5.5", and no price listed as of yet. Both fish are from the Rio Tocantins if that effects anything.

I was originally gonna wait until the next piranha season to grab a 1" rhombeus or something and grow it out, as this is my first foray into Serras.

Just wondering on what you guys would do, and how much i should expect to pay.

are there any visual morphology i can follow to verify a gibbus? i'm going in to see them once they arrive at the store. as for if they're actually from the rio tocantins not sure, but every piranha they have so far is from there. would it be weird to have 8 gibbus in stock? cause that is what is listed. they also have a soon to be priced 7.5' rhom from the same river.

If that's true that's one hell of an lfs imo. Definitely research the species in detail before buying!

Here's some good pics off the different species http://www.aquascapeonline.com/prodList.asp?item=Piranhas&idCategory=22

I would say they look like an elongated rhom, kind of like what you would think a rhom/elongatus cross would end up looking like. More rounded face and jaw than an elong.

Exactly what I'd recommend. Aquascape is usually very reputable, but I dont recommend using their photos for species identification. They go to Frank @ opefe for their ID's.

The normal Gibbus looks like a stretched rhom. Very similar coloring. But Rhom and Gibbus are both pretty versatile species and a rhom can have a longer than normal body, and a gibbus can have a shorter than normal body.

don't get too hold up by the specie, if you like the way it looks go for it.
chances are that could be a skinny rhom, I have seen rhoms before that look like gibbus (elongated shape) but are not gibbus.
I have also seem some pictures gibbus (according to owners) that looks very similar to some of the rhom from Brasil.
