Piranha tank mates?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Spotted raphael catfish.
Once the piranhas are over 1 ft you can try small livebearers like Endlers. And small shrimp.
That's about it...

There's really nothing that you can add that wouldn't be at some kind of risk. Even shrimp. Maybe snails lol?

you need to have a lot of coverage to provide hiding place for the small "tank mates"
my rhom eventually hunted down every single tetra I have in a 300g tank, it would tear the plants apart to get to them so there's no guarantee on any fish you add to the tank. mine would even attack snails from time to time if it sees them moving on the glass

The key for me was to establish breeding colonies of Endlers and shrimp, which would self-replenish...

Ok. I know a few places nearby that sell small tetras and shrimp for very cheap, so maybe in the future I can experiment a bit.
What about housing different species of piranha together? Is that a recipe for disaster or can it be done?

Most the other readily available piranha species must be kept solo.

When i was younger i had a single red belly for years. I was told by the guy at the fish store that a large apple snail would be fine with the fish. So i purchased one and brought it home and floated the bag. Waiting about a half hour i returned to release the snail only to find that the piranha had chewed itself into the bag and was nearly suffocating. Needless to say the snail went into my sisters goldfish tank.
