Hey Guys! I am kinda new here. I am looking for some advice. I right now have a 55 gallon tank. I would like to become a red bellied piranha keeper/breeder eventually. I know a 55 is too small to keep RBP's for life. I am planning on upgrading to a 90+ gallon tank within 3-4 months. I was just wondering if I was to get some now how long could i keep some juvenile rbp in a 55? How many total should I keep. I was hoping to keep maybe 4-6 in the 55 for a few months then upgrading. Even then I may upgrade to an even bigger tank. Just wanted to know your guys's thoughts.

Thanks!
Jake

They grow relatively quickly and when confined in a small area are much more likely to attack eachother. I wouldnt keep them more than a few months in a 55g. Once they get to the 4" range you will want to move them. Also start out with more than you want to keep.

your plan would work as they'll grow an inch a month til about 6 inches. just make sure you ARE able to upgrade or youll start to lose some to territorial disputes.

Good luck

i would vote againt the rbp's and insted get a serra of some kind, they grow slower and a 55 would be good for a few years, but if you plan on getting the rbp's then it would be helpful to know how big your next tank is going to be.... to help you better understand how many adults you could keep

i agree, you should buy acouple more than you plan to keep just in case you loose a couple along the way
