Hello. I have a 125 gallon tank with four 6" caribes. I do weekly water changes and have excellent filtration. No matter what I do, every few days the water gets a yellow tint to it. It looks cloudy. The only way to fix this is to change almost ALL the water; but I'm hesitant to do this cuz I don't wanna shock my fish. I'm having a very hard time keeping the water crystal clear. The only additives I've used are things similar to Novaqua. Whether or not I treat the water, I keep getting the same yellow/brownish color. Does anyone know what is going on with my tank? I don't want to lost $400 worth of fish...THX!! :nilly:

Oh yeah...all of my plants are plastic. Could the driftwood be causing the cloudiness?
it might b the driftwood how long ago did u put it in cuz if u just put it in not to long ago it might be it

The driftwood has been there for a few months. It gets pretty slimy but doesn't seem to be the problem... but I've had fresh/salt tanks for 15 years and have never had this prob. Its driving me nuts... and trust me, its not a long drive!

im not sure wat it could b my fist guess was that it might have been the drift wood
when did the water start turning that color?

I did a major water change the day before I added the piranhas, which lasted for a few days. (Not the fish... the clear water). Then I have not been able to get it crystal clear since (3 mos.) even with freq. water changes. The only way to do it is to remove almost ALL the water... but I'm afraid 100 gals of new tap water will kill my fish.

They are acting healthy and eating; its just that something doesn't seem right about the water. I have 5 turtles (which are FILTHY animals) in a 55 gal tank, with less filtration, and the water is totally clear.

Also, I add about 15 feeder goldfish each week; they usually last about two days, and are totally devoured by the pirahnas-- so no rotting food in the tank. Could this be the prob?

What I will tell you I hope it do not upset !

Change your filter cartridge every other week on a 125 wityh %50 Water change .If that is not good enuff thsn change ebery week eith a 40% water
change .
