Yeah. Its normal.. My Pacu change colour depending if the room has been dark or not.. If i keep the lights of for a day and then turn them on are the pacus just plain silver but after like 30min they go almost black again
IMO get rid of pacu before you regret it..these thing eat like a pig, and grow up to 24" in big tank.
