I pack the plants in "deep" with rocks but every 2 or 3 days, I will see a plant floating at the top. I've heard when piranhas are going to breed they dig up gravel but I find this hard to believe that my piranhas are breeding.

Although I do tend to have beginner's luck when it comes to breeding fish, since 2 days after I bought a male and female betta they started laying eggs.

:iagree:

are u asking why they do this?
they can produce great propultion with two swings of the tail. enough to up root almost any barried fake plant. and smaller plants with minimal rooting system.
if they have a little tussle between fish it happens often. chasing eachother and what naught. also happens during feeding frenzys.

give us more detail how the piranha look, and tank size and envoriment..here are some possible thing will cause breeding behavor.

piranha will turn dark black
very active and protective
dig up gravel
tail wipe
look around 6" plus...

It was a question. I just find it annoying to have to keep rooting my piranhas. They aren't 6 inches yet. I guess I will find a better rooting system.
