Piranha's patrolling

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Completely normal they haven’t eaten yet. Takes time to adjust to a new space. They can go weeks without eating only thing is their aggression may become a problem if it gets to that point. I’d keep offering food but make sure to take out any left overs they don’t eat within an hour.

Thank you! The reason I am worried is I forgot to state on my post that my RBPs are still juvies, around about 3inches, so yeah, agression is at the top of my worries.

I might have figured out another reason why they are so active though, the area where the new tank is placed can get quote hot (32° to 34° C/ 89° to 93° F)

Having said this, should I move them to a differently located tank with the same dimensions or just keep them where they are? The temp in the other location would be around (30°C / 86°F).

I worry moving them again so soon might cause further stress.

Yeah that’s definitely up there in the temperature range. I have my tank at 81C and that’s highest I’d go.

Looks like you nitrates are high also, maybe time for a water change? How long has the tank been established?

As far as moving them goes that depends on what these fish can take temperature wise and I’m pretty sure you’re up there. Maybe try to block sunlight if that’s a possibility?

Also, the higher temps will definitely make them more agitated/ aggressive

I’d unplug the heater and put some ice in to drop the temp. A wc could help with the nitrates.
How much cover do you have? It’s possible they feel secure enough to always be on the move.
They can go a while without eating, but I’ve noticed after 4 days or so mine would get nasty.

Thank you for the inputs friends! I just ordered an aquarium thermometer to accurately measure how hot it gets, the 32°-34° C mentioned earlier is my country's weather but inside the tank, I'd want to know for sure.

They finally ate today and stopped patrolling! So I figure I might have over reacted haha! I will denifitely look into DIYing a styrofoam cover for the tank to give it shade.

Also, the tank is an established tank, it used to house 5 Japanese Ranchus my father was trying to breed. I will do another WC in about 3 days, I am afraid another WC might stress them out again.
