I have a 155 gallon tank with 5 red belly gerthy piranhas, this week I adopted 5 more red belly piranhas. My question is can you tell in my pictures which ones were the neglected fish and which ones were my fish. I've heard horror stories about piranhas being neglected and explain to me why a fish so timid would be abused and or neglected are piranhas the pitbull of the fish world because i have never seen anorexic piranhas until i got these five off of craigslist. In the past two days their apetite has been good. I hope they regain the strength they need and the gerth. One I am very concerned about one eye is more recessed missing right fin and left eye is white glazed and seems to be maybe blind. My piranhas have not fought for dominance because i shuffled the tank and offered them a well fed meal. Any suggestions.

If they were in that bad of shape when you got them, I would have quarantined them for a little while before dropping them in with your healthy red bellies. Check them closely for disease. And yes, piranhas are pretty widely abused fish. A lot of people buy them thinking they're going to be killing machines, and when they dissapoint, they kind of forget about them. Good on you for rescuing them though :headbang2

EDIT: You've got some pretty good looking fish in there

i could tell enough to know they were skinny i seen them threw a cooler and some pics which were a lie i knew they werent sick i just got some weight to put on some i literally was seeing ribs fd up thank you

In the wild they are more lean looking. As hobbyist we tend to overfeed our piranhas. I have kept piranhas for quite sometime and also a local breeder. I too picked up 5 just within the month and was disappointed to find out that 3 were fed solely on LFS goldfish. Dont take this the wrong way but some of your piranhas look Obese rather than healthy. I have piranhas ranging from 4-8" and keep all in the same tank and feed every 3rd or 4th day.

i only feed mine once a week the past week ive been over feeding so the new ones would pick up some weight the new ones all had torn up fins calaised chins and bones sticking out ive learned if i keep them fed they wont kill each other they definently werent attractive ill be goin back to my regular feeding schedule this week
