Hi, I have a young Piraya, hes about 5.5 inches now. Hes grown about 2 inches in the 4 months Ive had him. Is that average or slow? Also, he is insanely skittish. If you sit near the tank, and he sees you blink? He darts around like a nut. This is my first Piranha so, looking for someone thats raised these before. His water is perfect, its dim lit, and he has plenty of cover. Including a slate cave. Thank you in advance!
Piraya piranha advise?

Hes a Pygocentrus Piraya. 75 gallon (for now). I feed him once a day. Cocktail shrimp, tilapia, and sometimes a chunk of raw chicken breast.
Nzafi- about 4months.

Pygocentrus tend to do be less skittish when kept with others imo. I used to keep my Piraya in a mixed pygo tank but I matched the sizes and brought them up together from a young age.
Aren't Piraya's usually less skittish than red bellies though? Especially as the grow and get older?
I’ve had skittish natts and some less so, my last pygo tank contained natts, caribe and piraya and none were skittish. It’s probably due to a number of factors like environment, temperament etc
It’s mainly the Piranhas, I’ve had 60-70 of which only a few of the serras were not skittish and attacked the glass...
Bigger group, bigger tank, less light, more traffic by the tank -
I have only a small group of whimple now and every time I walk up to the tank the dart everywhere...
