Howdy,

Update on my pirayas: The previously dominant fish got a huge bite taken out of its gill cover (operculum) two days ago. Looked pretty raw, but it healing up nicely. I am actually impressed, that's not soft tissue, that bite really had some power behind it! Now the guy is not #1 any longer... The new #1 also had some light gill cover damage, but only superficial and it's already completely gone. Those guys heal up quickly!

I have been observing them for several months showing off against each other, heads down like bulls, somewhat shaking their bodies. Looks like we now have a winner.

Who else is observing that behavior?

Bump?!

Good to hear he healed up completely it is rather impressive how fast piranhas can close wounds that would be probably near lethal for another fish.

How big are they now ?

and did you get the algae under control in your tank yet ?

i have some piraya and i have observed the same behavior. heads down body shaking possibly circling eachother, the dominant caribe in my tank was eaten and now 2 piraya seem to own the tank. very interesting how quickly things change

I know. You'd think modern medicine could harness that power to heal. That'd be a breakthrough!!!

Yes :) Over two weeks later - no algae has come back. Thanks for the reminder, I'll have to update my thread! At least a short-term victory. Keep your fingers crossed.
