Pitbulls

Out of the 25 dogs who have earned UKC "superdog" status (by gaining championship titles in conformation, obedience, agility, and weightpull), fourteen have been American Pit Bull Terriers.
They are amazing dog but that exactly what makes them so dangerous. The difference between an M-80 and a full stick of TNT. Both if mistreated can kill you one just takes a lot less to do it.

Pits are GREAT dogs. I have one and he is amazingly loyal. They are very stubborn though.

They get negative press over little yelp dogs because they cause greater damage that those little yelp dogs.

RESEARCH is the key to owning this breed. Be a good ambassador for the sake of all pits.

The Media doesn't do anything to pitbullz Its the simple fact that this poor dog probably has the highest jerk owner ratio of any dog (competing closely to blonds and chiwawas ^_^ ).

When I think of pit owners I know personally, only one of them has one because he loves animals and adopted it. The rest all get them because of what they are capable of(not to say they are bad owners but they are compensating ya know like getting a half ton truck for communiting they get it cause they think its bad ass and they hypothesize about how getting a dog that can handle anything is what they really need.). They are pound for pound one of the most deadly creatures out there. From their jaws to their skin to their natural stance this breed is raw power and they can take it as well as they can dish it out.

I think its more the owner and general owner attitude towards this breed that generates bad press. The mike vics of the world aren't helping ya know.

That being said I know plenty of pit bulls that are complete dolls.

Finding pits for fighting is a easy thing to do. I was at a reptile trade show and their was a guy selling large pups based on the fathers weight.

The dog is a reflection of the owner and so many of this poor breed have had A holes for owners.

That being said I do have a affection for this type of animal but I generally love any dog, save for little fofo types.

Actually no. There are loads and loads of creatures far more dangerous. They lack any form of venom gland. They carry no incurable diseases. No real claws. Can't fly. They are nothing more than a kind of powerful jaw on a relatively fast self propelled platform. You are making the out to be a killing machine which they are not. Pit bull crushing force id 320 PSI. Hyena 1000 PSI, Crocodile 2500. When crush force was tested the Pit was below the Shepard and the Rottweiler. Not sure any Dog would come close to the top 100 on the danger scale. They have only one advantage over other dangerous predators is that they live with us.

pound for pound a tibetan mastiff is it.... they are bred to be chained during day and roam at night.(name in tibet is (Do-khyi) they fight off snow leopards and have the thickest bone density for their size and have been around since the bronze age(one of oldest dogs).. pit bulls are decendants of tibetan mastiff's just as well as english mastiff's etc..... i aint talking about some 100lb akc one that comes from the englishman's breed... get one from tibet where females are 160lbs all day and males much larger... since the bronze age they have put these dogs in pits as puppies to let them get mean feeding them scraps of wolf's etc...

dog's bites vary not by too much, but a pit bull isn't even close to strongest... another urban legand about the dog... it's just when they grab something their mentality is not to let go... hence the "lock jaw" also they say it is hard to measure the true bite power of a dog because of their nature... but from the results they do have it's not a pitbull...

the pound for pound was out of dogs... lol tosa inu is a beast too... but they are just for fighting.... tibetan mastiff's actually have use to them and are bred as guardian warriors... not "fighting dogs"

the creature quote.. well pound for pound the list would be huge.... lol and a wolverine/badger is the just retarded pound for pound... a bear or even a pack of wolves won't even think about taking a meal from one of those guys...

I have a Pit mix that's almost 13 years old and he's the best dog I've ever known. He's just a big softie. He loves babies and children, gets along great with other dogs and cats and doesn't even bother the squirrels and rabbits that frequent our backyard. Even though he has advanced arthritis and is going blind he's still a sweetheart and everyone loves him. He has been through 3 levels of obediance training, gets exercised for at least an hour every day and I still train with him. Training and exercise is essential for ALL dogs.

These dogs get a bad rap because of uncaring owners and the media blowing things out of proportion. I don't understand how so many people can see the truth about these dogs and yet others still ruin it for us with hysteria and breed bans. The people responsible for making their dog aggressive need to be punished, not the dog.

i believe the two breeds that made a pit bull were the english bulldog and the american staffie. - No mastiff what so ever.

I couldn't agree with you more. Not to mention that stupid "lock jaw" myth. It simply just isn't true..

But everyone has to remember, that there is opinion, and truth. As long as we know the TRUTH and the FACTS- the opinions don't mean anything important to us.

Regrettably not true. People high on opinion and short on fact have installed countless idiot laws. One type of snake head was introduced to the US so now ALL species are banned.
