I have had 2 oscars for about 10 months, and one of them has been developing some sort of holes in his head, one under his eye, and one on the lower right side of his face. I noticed the one under his eye when he was a juvie, i cant remember hen i noticed the other. I am sure this is not HITH, because the water has pretty much always been good in his tank, and no matter how clean i keep it, the hole will not subside. I am wondering if this could be bacterial,or parasitic? any help is appreciated.

the tank is 105 gallons, the filtration is one rena xp4, and one cascade 1000.

HITH is also related to nutrition, and can be super hard to reverse.

What are you feeding, and what are your exact h2o parameters.

heres my recipe, blended up and frozen with gelatin-3 bananas
1 cup of peas
1 peeled zucchini
1 cup of carrots
1/2 garlic clove
small peeled mango
1 orange
1 packet of knox gelatin
about 3/4 pound of smelt
im not exactly sure about my perameters , i think my test kit is expired. lat week they were(according to the kit i mentioned)-PH:7.6 Nitrates:0 nitrites:0 ammonia:0. the tank has been established for quite some time so i dont know why there are no nitrites.

Hmm...still sounds like a messy food.

I really dont know how important all that veggie matter is for your oscars.

I would try feeding NLS...keep feeding your other stuff too as long as h2o quality isnt suffering but a high quality food like NLS would really complete their diet.

Oscars like (and deserve) a variety of foods.

, i feed that, and hikari pellets, but the question still remains, what is eating my fish's face?

Definately hole in the head.. The biggest cause of hole in the head are the lack of nutrition. I didnt even read through all that stuff you feed them.. but I can tell you they need way more protein. What i feed my oscars: Frozen: Beefheart, mysis shrimp, bloodworms, whole krill, Brine shrimp.
Dry: Very rarely Hikari Gold sinking pellets
Live: Guppies, ghost shrimp rarely as they don't have that much protein comparatively.

Goodluck with the treatment, not sure if youll be able to reverse it but youll be able to prevent further damage with a variety of meaty food. lay off the veggies, theyre carnivores.

By the way I rely mostly on the frozen stuff and red wigglers or trout worms.
pellets about once a week and other live prey every couple weeks.

It's not your water quality. Its your (bad hunter) food lol. Feed them the protein i listed and they'll be fine.
