Keeping them in 100% freshwater.

Mellow fish. They're doing great in my 125G community.

what kind of growth rate have you seen. in bought 3 in july at dime size and they are only about 2in long atm.

I would consider these guys to be a "moderate growth rate" sort of fish. I definitely notice the difference in size since I originally got them three months ago. I bought them from Jeff Rapps when they were in the 2.5-3" range. They have definitely bulked up since then. They have grown more in width/girth than length. I feed them once a day, rotating between Hikari Cichlid pellets and bloodworms and do the usual 50% weekly water change on the tank. I run three filters on the tank (Fluval FX5, Eheim 2215, AquaClear AC110). Their tank mates are also very mellow so there is no cause for stress from that angle.

I had 2 myself a few years ago and have been looking to replace them. The larger of the 2 reached a full 10" before its untimely death
