Placing biomedia INSIDE tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you can it just wont look that good
besides the gravel does exactly the same thing

Bio media IS inside the tank. Bio media is everywhere in your system.
Ceramic rings are just one form.
There was a time long , long ago when the bio media was only in the tank.

As the others have said, of course you can put the rings in the tank.
Good way to “kick start” a new tank is putting some established media in it, either in a filter, or just hanging it in the tank.
Without a flow of water going through the media, it would seem a bit wasteful to me.

I remember those days. :grinyes:
Arthritis must be getting worse then ?... :grinno:

Serious though ceramic rings in the tank will work. There is an issue that nitrifying bacteria like dark conditions better but that shouldn't stop you losing sleep as it's more about preferance than life or death for the little buggers.

Cool. I read on one of the bio-media boxes at LFS that say not to put directly inside aquarium. Thought I'd ask.

Well yeah, how does anyone manage to survive without a canister or a sump?:naughty:
It's all about "add on sales".;)

I don't see why not. I have 5 gallons of bioballs floating in my 140 cycling for my 300g for when I set it up to seed the other 25 gallons of bioballs haha

yes you can put them in the tank won't be as effective unless theres a bit of current going to them maybe aim a small powerhead at them to increase water flow to the bacteria.
