Just picked up an 18"ish planiceps yesterday. The mouth is bent out of shape but not that surprising since it came out of a 4' tank. Anyone have any experience with this cat?

From what I've read they are very fast growing, and more sensitive than other shovelnose species.

Hi there.
Planiceps are wonderful catfish.
They can grow to well over 4 feet in length if looked after properly.

Unfortunately they tend to suffer quite badly with Bent snouts as a result of being kept in too small aquarimums.
Off all the big Pims they are very placid & generally appreciate peace & quite & slow moving calm tank mates - if any!
They can be skittish & have sudden bursts of speed.
Provide them with the biggest set up you can get them in, my 2 for example are currently in 6' x 4' x 3' heated Ponds, with tons of Aeration & massive filtration.
Although they will be move into even bigger accomodation as required.
Sandy base, Some big pices of wood & dim lighting completes the set up.
Mine a feed a mixture of Large Prawns, Earthworms & big white fish fillets - but only once, twice a week.
Hope that helps
Rob

We have a firewood cat! He's very, very chill. He hangs out on the bottom with his buddies the TSN and RTC x TSN. Like a lot of big cats in the making, he rarely swims around but will eat anything that floats by his giant mouth. Ours has grown fairly fast. It's a funny growth though because he stays so skinny except for his head, which is massive, but he just keeps getting longer and longer. Definitely a cool cat!
