I've been finding all kinds of conflicting info on this catfish since I found one yesterday as far as true size goes.

and can't really find any concrete info on it other than it's considerably rare. Priced locally at 19.99 for a 3 incher. Should I even attempt of will it truly outgrow a 125gal?

It will definitely outgrow your 125, but can be housed in it for a time. The planiceps I currently have, as well as the one's Ive had before grow pretty quickly to the 12"-15" mark. After that they slow down a bit....but not much.

I would love to own one of these guys. They get very large, but are absolutely beautiful. This will be the next catfish that I will be hunting down. Eventually, it will be, "Kids get out of the pool, my catfish are moving in... Seriously, get out!" :D

lol, I'm not big on cats but recognized it when i saw it enough to know I knew nothing about it. They're even attractive at their small size.

Planiceps can get 60" or so. From my experience they grow fast to about 26"" then slow down considerably. Mine grew about 3" a month from the 4" I bought it at to the 30" it is now roughly. Pics of my previous planiceps and an adult. I don't have any current pics of my big one but it is doing well in my pond growing out with the piraiba and ageneiosus marmoratus. If you found one for $20 I'd be extremely suprised since they usually go for about $75 even at a 3-4" size. I bet what you found is a TSN.

They look so cool from the top view as juveniles. Almost like butterfly wings.
Amazonfishman, do the fins still look the same from the top when they get to adult size?
