So I plan on adding some fish to my 180 gallon. I am pulling all the smaller african cichlids out, leaving the fish with an asterisk behind in the tank. All of them are about 4.5 inches long besides the convicts which are about 2.5 inches. A pet store near me recently offered me a bunch of cichlids at a great price so I think I will go pick them up soon. They will all be kept together for a while, until aggression gets too bad, and then they will be split between other tanks and a friend's tanks. So far there is no aggression between the fish in the display. They even leave the 15 or so 2 inch african cichlids alone. None of my fish have any nips in their fins or anything.

Kamalau Flowerhorn* (king of the tank, male)
Red Devil* (Close second, male)
Carpintis Texas Cichlid* (male)
2 Convict Cichlids** (both female, thinking about adding 4 or 5 more as dithers, especially since all the fish in this tank eat giant danios and tinfoil barbs)
2 Jack Dempseys** (both male)
1 Black Nasty (he's a 6 inch fish that lives with a breeding pair of jack dempseys at the store. He's been there almost 2 months).
1 Crenicichla lenticulata
1 Cuban Cichlid
1 Red Terror
1 Green Terror
1 Red Tiger Motaguensis
1 Chuco* godmani
1 Vieja synspillum
1 Striped Raphael Catfish* (about 6 inches. Awesome fish to keep with bruisers like these. I bought him from a guy that kept him with a black piranha for 3 years and had no problems. I see him when I clean the tank).

I love the fish on this list! See how it goes because there are definitely a few fish worth the trouble of keeping :D if you've got extra tanks and friends to offload others to, I don't see any problem with getting them all

I agree w/ the others you may end up w/ only 2 fish. Plus forget about plants w/ that stock. Hope you like doing water changes.

should be fine as long as they are small and your growing them out like you said lol you dont want all of them in there as adults lol you will end up with two fish
RD and FH lol

That's the goal. Grow them all out and keep the ones I like. Those I don't either sell or trade off. So far though there is no aggression (although I think my monthly guppy sacrifice has a lot to do with that, and yes I breed the guppies myself).

As for plants I use plastic because I "borrowed" the lights off of this tank to keep my anemone and corals in my saltwater tank alive after my fixture died. Water changes are no problem, I just drain right out the window next to the tank and refill with a hose directly from the sink (I have a well and have no chlorine in it like tap water. I even use it with no ill-effects on my reef tank).
