hi i am in the process of planning a plywood tank but need some help to make sure everything goes well.

the dimensions will be 90" long x 30" wide x 30" tall and will have 1 window along the front.

here are a few questions i have.
  • what kind of plywood do i use?
  • will i need a frame around it? (if so what size wood - 2x4?)
  • will a 12mm thick perspex/acrylic window be ok? (if not will 15mm be ok?)
  • will normal aquarium sealent be ok for the window or is there something more sutible?
  • how much epoxy resin will i need? (can i use pond liner depending on price of resin?)
i think that all for now. any help will be greatly appreciated.

THANKS.

For answers to most of those questions go to www.garf.org and click on the DIY Pages on the bottom of the left hand side an click on building your own tank. Just put in your dimensions and it gives you what you need...

hi and thanks for the link.

i have just tried it and it says it does not recomend building a plywood tank longer than 48" when the height is more than 24".

The reason people build plywood is because its better than making a HUGE glass one. You can have a plywood tank thats 8ftx3ftx3ft if you wanted. No dilemmas. Go to acrticles and read the thread about someone building a 1700G plywood tank.
