Hey guys. My birthday is coming up and the wife gave me the "Go ahead" on building us a larger plywood tank that I want to make 17' L x 22.5" D x 20-24" H which I think is a 473 gallon tank

Anyone have any links or info that may help me "Git R Going"?

Im wandering how to put together the plywood when the tank is long then the standard length of a sheet of plywood.

Ive done some reading and have heard, Liquid rubber is nice, Becuse it move more without cracking. But my friend told me if he did it, he would use a pond liner sheet.

And with that much water, would I need 2x4's as added support along the walls?

Any direction would be alot of help and I will be sure to add my pictures and steps to this thread. Thank you guys/gals.

I head someone tell me that after so many feet even glass needs support so it dont bow/flex/break

1 10 foot by 2 foot deep tank can be walked out the front door. But a tank the size I would like would have to be destroyed if we ever moved. But it would be real nice under the tv mounted on the wall.

Anyone have any links or tips on this build?

If theres a t.v. going above it, it sounds like your trying to make a "showpiece". In those regards i would def. make the tank outta plywood and fiberglass. As for the 17' length no problem (may i ask y u dont just do 16' for material sake?). Just use 2 layers of wood and on the inside and make sure you put a full sheet across the seam in the middle for your second inside layer. For bracing I think you can get away without any 2x4's since the height and depth from front to back are on the small side, make sure you have a solid top brace like in acrylic tanks (one sheet, so you would do the same as the other seams and use 2 layers to cover the seam). Do you not have room to make the 22.5" bigger? pretty large tank for a tiny footprint, atleast go to 24" for the depth from front to back aswell. I would fiberglass the inside and outside of the tank if you do choose to not use extra bracing with 2x4's. This will keep the tank looking custom made instead of ghetto as well as reinforcing it very well. Most people do not fiberglass the outside of there tanks but the ones who do truely have nice builds. I have a pondliner with window 650 gal. but your not going to save any money using liner on ur build because its so small. Its actually cheaper to build a 1,000gal. than it is to build tanks under 500 gallons. For example i have around $1700-2,000 in my 650 build but am currently building a 3,200 gallon for the same price. As for other information, there is an extreme abundance of knowledge and personal building experiences in this section, just have a look, Theres a sticky with several different styles of tanks with lots of pics.
